From the start, the graveled road climbs Ward Pass 1145 m and descends into Isolated Flat – 250 hectares of expansive grass and tussock lands, bounded by rolling mountains and massive scree slopes. Once at Red Gate, the road loosely follows the Acheron River through to the historic Acheron Accommodation house and the confluence of the Acheron and Clarence rivers. From here we follow the Clarence to Jollies Pass – and from there into the North Canterbury town of Hanmer Springs – finishing at the Jollies Pass Hotel historic site on Jollies Pass Road: a total distance of 84 km.

Grades will be Open Men, Open Women, Veteran Men, Veteran Women, Business Teams and Mixed Teams.

Mixed teams must have at least 1 member of the opposite sex per team.

The field will be limited to 75 teams and 20 solo eventers.

A new category within the four leg race – Leg Splitting Teams.

  • Team members (up to 8 runners) get to choose which leg/s they want to share between two runners.
  • At their chosen change over (not necessarily half way) first runner stops, hands over the race number to the fresh legs, and gets in their support vehicle. Fresh runner carries on to finish the leg.
  • The same runner can do more than (part of) one leg. Say second half of leg one and first half of leg three. “Run, rest, repeat”
  • Entry fee is the same as four person teams.
  • Teams must nominate which legs they want to split and the name of runner/s for each leg prior to the race start.
  • If a team member runs a whole leg he/she is eligible for the fastest leg prizes.
  • Depending on the number of Leg Splitting Teams entered, there may be a special prize category for them. Regardless, seeing that beautiful country and not running yourself ragged has to be a win!
  • Enter now, by selecting four person team. We will collect the final runner names at race day registration. Easy.
