Join DGRS Runners in annual pilgrimage to the Gold Coast for some fast times, fun, and little too much outlet shopping for running shoes.
Fast, flat 10km which is a mix of one small lap and four 2.3km laps, offering a scenic and manageable route in the heart of the South Island. Plus Kids' Mile, the Frontrunner 5km and Walks.
With stunning hill, city, and harbour views and a variety of courses to suit all abilities, the Crater Rim Ultra includes the Hansen Park Kids Dash, Rapaki Rumble 10km, Kiwi Challenge 22km, Bellbird Buster 30km, Crater Rim 53km or Ultra 80km where you will run over extinct volcanoes along the Crater Rim.
Athletes enter directly via Athletic Net. SENIOR INTERCLUB COMPETITION FEES ALL Grades = $8.00, including first event. Additional Events = $1.00 per event
The 72nd Annual Greymouth Harriers Two and Four Person Relay will follow the West Coast Wilderness Trail, starting in Kumara outside the Theatre Royal Hotel and finishing beside the Grey River at the Blaketown Rugby Clubrooms. The course is made up into 4 legs of 8km, 5km, 6km and 6.6km which you can compete as a 2 Person Team (run or walk 2 alternate legs each) or a 4 Person Team of 4 (run or walk 1 leg each).
2024 New Zealand Road Relay Championships set to be hosted at the Taupo Motorsport Park on Saturday 28 September. Pre-register your interest now as we intend to book accommodation for DGRS members and will organise shared vans where required.
The Andrew Reese Memorial Relay 2024 is set in the Ashley Picnic Ground, with a mixture of shingle stop bank roads, undulating single track and forest trails with one lap covering approx. 2.5km. With teams made up of 4 runners each, the juniors will run one lap and the seniors two. Registrations close 6pm Monday 16 September.
Loburn Road Relay 2024 is a six lap relay of a 39km circuit. Laps are between 4.29 and 8.35km. All teams are eligible for medals so you don’t need to be registered to take part. Enter by Saturday, 24th August @ 6pm.
Held on this course since 1962, this event has a chasing start which aims to create a mass finish by the slowest runners heading off first and the faster runners chasing them home. Most of the runners finish within 4 minutes of each other. As a DGRS runner Don will estimate your 5km time for you.
Relay event at Lake Roto Kohatu for teams of 4 running 5km each (over 16) or 2.5km each (under 16). A mixed adult and child option is also available. Unregistered runners can compete in this event, but $20 adults and $10 U16. Registered Athletes $12 and $7. Entries close 6pm on Monday 5th August.
Nutrition seminar on Thursday 1st August with sports dietitian Cushla Holdaway. Free for all registered Athletics Canterbury members, and $10 for general public. 7-8pm in the Helen Kitson Function Centre at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School.

These steeples are wider and more stable than sprint hurdles at 750mm high with two lower rails that small athletes can climb on. The rule is that you choose to either go over a steeple (taking the shortest line) or run around far end. Registrations close 6pm Monday 15 July.
This Cross Country Race allows young runners to meet and enjoy the flat fast course around Hansen Park. Entries close Monday 6pm 1 July.

This championship race serves to identify the local champions, as well as acting as the selection race for the National Champs. It is the pinnacle race for the Cross Country season. Registrations close 6pm Monday 24 June.
The tradition of the Holloway Memorial, which originally used the Trentham racecourse, is revisited with the event now being held at the Motukarara Race Course. The race has over the years had a reputation as a “proper cross country” and the undulating 2km course on variable terrain at Motukarara will continue that tradition. Entries close Monday 3rd June at 6pm.
3km race for Under 16s, 4.5km Open Race, and 4.5km Women’s and Men's Eliminators. Entries close Sunday 19 May 6pm (late entries on the night).
Honoring the late Daniel Reese by entering this event you can run both a scratch race of either 2 km (under 18) or 4 km (18 and over), and compete in a relays team of 4 (running between 1km and 4 km each).

The 2024 Athletics Canterbury Mile Championships combined with the Athletics Canterbury 5km Road Championships will take place on a fast, flat road course within the Bottle Lake reserve. Keen Athletes can do BOTH the mile and the 5km at no extra cost!

We are thrilled to be able to invite YOU and your friends to compete at The FAST Five as part of the International Track Meet weekend. The 5km run is open to all levels and abilities (year 9 and above). You have 45 minutes to complete the course to finish on the athletics track at Ngā Puna Wai before International Track Meet starts. · The course starts and finishes on the athletics track at Ngā Puna Wai before heading out on the smooth roads around Aidanfield and returns to finish back on the track. Full traffic management is in place.

Pegasus Town will host the Canterbury Half Marathon and 9km Run and Walk.

The Loburn 68 replaces the Takahe to Akaroa, and this year is the venue for the New Zealand National Road Relays. DGRS will be seeking to at least repeat last years 3rd overall club in New Zealand success. We expect again to field some very competitive teams, with the Canterbury Road Champs on the 26 August being the main selection event. But even if you don't make a team aiming for a podium finish, there will be a place for you in a DGRS team aiming for collectively do the best we can and enjoy what is the premier Club event of the season. Registration by Friday 8 September so that Don can organise the teams.

The 2023 New Zealand Road Championships is scheduled for 10 September and will be held in the vicinity of University Ave on the Massey University campus, Palmerston North.

The Canterbury "Champions of the Roads" are the grade winners in this Canterbury Road Running Championship event hosted by Athletics Canterbury. Olivia Ritchie was the 2023 women's champion! This Championship event offers registered athletic club runners the opportunity to be selected to represent Canterbury in National Road Championships. This is also the primary DGRS selection event for the Road Relay teams. Entries close Sunday 20th August at 6pm.

The Rawhiti Races is the first of the fast- paced individual runs of the season. It is a challenging event over the ups & downs of Rawhiti domain, run over a mix of grass and trail. There is a "short-course option" for all runners 20 years and older. Registrations close Sunday 21 May.

For a run to qualify you must be registered with DGRS in the year that you ran the time, and within each category only your fastest race will be recorded. The DGRS committee will have final decision on whether an event qualifies. Please send nominations either for yourself or others to dgrs@dgrs.nz.
